A few more very very good wrasses.

The diminutive Possum Wrasses (Wetmorella):

And last but not least, the breathtaking Tamarin Wrasses (Anampses spp):

And since I have a bit of space after breaking this post up, here’s the lovely slingjaw wrasse.

He does the big schlorp.

And yes schlorp is the best way to describe what’s happening here.

(A stunning example of the hyper-mobility of the jaws of advanced teleost fish. The hyomandibula and maxilla just are swinging way the hell out there to turn this fish into a vacuum cleaner.)

You know what is another very good genus of tiny marine gobies?

The genus Tryssogobius!

image

Also known as the Fairy Gobies, which is both apt and adorable, or sometimes as the Tiny or Blue-eyed dartfish. These are gobies though. True gobies to be exact (in the subfamily Gobiinae).

These guys are also very diminutive, ranging in size from 2-3 cm in total length. Another fish on my dream team nano fish wish list, fairy gobies do occasionally pop up in the aquarium trade.
